Established in as a single shop in the seaside town of Salcombe, Jack Wills is a British preppy lifestyle brand. In the UK it will almost certainly be made in China! When you travel you should buy locally made gifts I think and I would encourage tourists in the UK to do the same.

If it has a Union Flag on it, then it ought to be made in Britain! If it has a picture of the Queen, then it should be made in Britain or the Commonwealth! If you are buying such products, please check they are British made.

For example Boots multivitamins and Boots kitchen soap do not state the country of origin.

If their products do not say made in the UK on them we can assume they are made abroad. Whilst on a recent shopping trip in Bath, I happened upon a Jack Wills shop where they, for those who aren't familiar with the brand, sell clothing mainly aimed at folk like wot is in Made in Chelsea and, increasingly it would seem, to people who are considerably less well-off.

Anyway, they market themselves as being 'British University Outfitters' and 'Fabulously British', which, on first encounter, you would be inclined to go along with.

Look a little closer, however, and you'll see that their clothes are made in China, India or Portugal. This is not cool, especially when you consider they're far from Primark prices. Does this grate on anyone else other than me?
